The highly anticipated DolphiniOS emulator, a popular fork of the Dolphin emulator designed for Nintendo Wii and GameCube games, will not be making its way to the Apple App Store. The developer behind the emulator recently confirmed that Apple has denied permission for DolphiniOS to use its crucial performance-boosting technology known as Just-in-Time (JIT).
JIT is a compiler that plays a significant role in translating the PowerPC-based code of the GameCube and Wii into a language that can be understood by other devices. This translation process is essential for ensuring that emulated games run smoothly and efficiently.
Unfortunately for fans of the emulator, Apple has strict policies in place that prevent third-party apps from using JIT compilers. The only exceptions to this rule are Safari and alternative web browsers in Europe.
In an attempt to gain JIT support from Apple, the developer of DolphiniOS submitted a DMA interoperability request. However, this request was ultimately denied by Apple just a few weeks ago.
The news has disappointed many users who were eagerly awaiting the release of DolphiniOS on the App Store. As of now, it seems that Apple’s restrictions on JIT technology will prevent the emulator from becoming available on iOS devices. Fans will have to explore other avenues for enjoying their favorite Nintendo games on their mobile devices.
