SpaceX’s next-generation Starship spacecraft is gearing up for its third launch from Boca Chica, Texas on March 13, 2024. The upcoming launch will be an uncrewed test flight of the Starship atop the powerful Super Heavy rocket.
Federal regulators, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), have given the green light for the launch attempt. The FAA issued SpaceX the necessary launch license after ensuring that all safety, environmental, policy, and financial responsibility requirements were met.
The launch window is scheduled between 8 a.m. ET and 9:50 a.m. ET on Thursday, with a livestream planned by SpaceX starting 30 minutes before the window opens. The goal of the test flight is to continue building on past successes while addressing any problems encountered in previous flights.
Following an investigation into the issues experienced during the November launch, changes have been made to the Starship prototype. New capabilities to be demonstrated during the third Starship flight include opening and closing the spacecraft door, transferring fuel during flight, and splashing down in the Indian Ocean as part of a NASA demonstration.
SpaceX is aiming to showcase the advancements and improvements made to the Starship spacecraft while pushing the boundaries of space exploration. Stay tuned for the live broadcast of the test flight as SpaceX continues its mission to revolutionize space travel.
