Eleven People and Dog Rescued from Flood Waters in Kenya by Red Cross Team
A Red Cross team in Kitengela, Kajiado County successfully rescued eleven people and a dog from flood waters in a challenging mission. The rescue effort was described as difficult, but the team managed to save all individuals as the floodwaters slowly receded.
Unfortunately, more rains are expected in the coming month, exacerbating the ongoing floods in specific areas of Kenya. Earlier in the week, heavy flooding in Mai Mahiu resulted in at least 71 deaths and dozens of people missing. In the last 24 hours alone, 10 Kenyans lost their lives due to the flooding, bringing the official death toll to 179, including 15 children.
The residents of Mai Mahiu are desperately searching for bodies trapped by the floods, but they lack the necessary resources and equipment. In response to the crisis, President William Ruto has ordered military deployment to assist in finding missing individuals and has urged citizens in affected areas to evacuate to safety.
To provide temporary accommodation for flood victims, the government has set up 52 displacement camps across the country. The situation remains dire as the death toll continues to rise, and more rains are expected. The Kenyan government is working tirelessly to assist those affected by the ongoing floods and is calling for international support in managing the crisis.
