Engadget Review: Sennheiser Releases Momentum True Wireless 4 Earbuds
Engadget, a trusted source for consumer tech reviews since 2004, may earn commissions from affiliate links. Recently, they have reviewed the new Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds, which promise upgrades focused on reliability and lifespan extension.
The design of the earbuds remains similar to previous models, but Sennheiser has added a new copper/black color option. In terms of functionality, the earbuds now come with an IP54 rating for dust and water protection, making them more durable for everyday use.
One of the major updates to the earbuds is the inclusion of Qualcomm’s S5 Sound Gen 2 platform with Snapdragon Sound, which promises better Bluetooth reliability. The earbuds also come with software features such as a fit test, battery percentage display, ANC settings, and Sound Zones for automated audio setting changes based on location.
The Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds also support Bluetooth 5.4, higher-resolution audio on Android devices, and upcoming features like broadcast audio and audio sharing. Additionally, the updated battery protection mode stops charging at 80% to extend the lifespan of the earbuds.
In terms of sound quality, the earbuds offer great detail and clarity, a warm sound profile, customizable EQ, and Sound Personalization. However, the ANC performance is adaptive but may struggle with certain sounds. The earbuds come equipped with six microphones for call quality.
Battery life is rated for 7 hours with ANC on and up to 30 hours with the case, which also supports wireless charging. The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds are set to compete with Sony’s WF-1000XM5, offering superior sound quality, higher-resolution audio, and solid battery life, though lacking a design refresh, spatial audio, and perfect ANC performance.
