Grammy-winning singer Usher was named entertainer of the year at the 55th annual NAACP Awards in Los Angeles this past weekend. The R&B star expressed his gratitude to fans for their unwavering support throughout his impressive three-decade career.
Usher’s recent accomplishments include a wildly successful residency in Las Vegas, tying the knot with his longtime girlfriend, releasing his ninth studio album “Coming Home,” and performing at the highly-anticipated Super Bowl halftime show. The singer was stunned when he received the award from none other than media mogul Oprah Winfrey, who made a surprise appearance at the ceremony.
Hosted by Queen Latifah and airing live on BET, the awards also saw notable victories for the film industry. “The Color Purple” took home the award for best motion picture, while Fantasia Barrino was honored as best actress in a motion picture.
In addition, legendary R&B group New Edition was inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame. The event recognized outstanding talent in television as well, with Damson Idris winning best actor in a drama television series for his role in “Snowfall.”
Colman Domingo also had a successful evening, taking home awards for best supporting actor in “The Color Purple” and best actor in a motion picture for his role in “Rustin.” The night was filled with well-deserved accolades for talented individuals across various entertainment fields, making it a memorable celebration of diversity and achievement.
