Apple’s highly anticipated Vision Pro headset is inching closer to its official launch day, and for those still on the fence about ordering one, a visit to an Apple store might help make up their minds. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to provide in-store demos for its new VR headset, allowing customers to experience the device firsthand.
However, it seems that the demo process won’t be a quick and simple affair. Gurman reports that customers will need to go through several steps before getting their hands on the Vision Pro. This includes face scans, the assembly of a custom Vision Pro headset, a walkthrough of the interface and controls, device calibration, and finally, a comprehensive 25-minute demonstration of the headset’s capabilities.
Apple understands the importance of a perfect fit for each wearer’s comfort and enjoyment. To achieve this, the Vision Pro offers multiple sizing options for the light seal, foam cushion, and band. Unlike other brands, Apple is not taking any chances by offering a universal fit for in-store demos. Instead, Apple employees will use face scans and also scan customers’ glasses to determine the right prescription for the Vision Pro lenses.
To ensure a smooth and efficient process, each Apple store will have hundreds of lenses on hand for demos. Employees will work together to handle the demo process, with one employee collecting customers’ details on the floor, while another handles the headset assembly in the back.
For those eager to try out the Vision Pro, some stores will have at least a dozen headsets available for demos. The demo itself promises to be an exciting experience, with a range of immersive content, including normal, panorama, and “spatial” photos, spatial videos, as well as interactive scenarios like feeling as if one is walking on a tightrope. There will even be a preview of the Vision Pro’s capabilities as a computer.
If you’re interested in trying out the Vision Pro headset, sign-ups for the in-store demos will begin at 8 AM local time on February 2. This is a limited opportunity, so avid Apple enthusiasts should mark their calendars and ensure they get their chance to see what the Vision Pro has to offer.
