“The Hunger Games” Prequel Film Receives Interim Agreement for Onscreen Talent to Promote Movie
“The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” the highly anticipated prequel film in “The Hunger Games” franchise, has received an interim agreement from the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). This agreement allows the film’s onscreen talent to actively promote the movie in the weeks leading up to its release on November 17.
Lionsgate, the production company behind “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” is not currently part of the ongoing negotiations between the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and SAG-AFTRA during the actors’ strike. However, they were able to secure this interim agreement for publicity purposes.
The interim agreement is not unique to “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” as other recent projects including “What Happens Later,” “Priscilla and Iron Claw,” “Ferrari,” and Taylor Swift’s concert film have also received similar agreements. These agreements allow the actors involved to contribute to the success of their projects by promoting them.
Actress Rachel Zegler, who stars in “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” expressed her gratitude for the interim agreement on her Instagram account. She stated that making the movie was one of the best experiences of her life and she is thrilled to be able to actively promote it.
“The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” is based on the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins. The film features a screenplay written by Michael Lesslie and Michael Arndt. Set in the dystopian world of Panem, the story serves as a prequel to the original four-film “Hunger Games” series, which starred Jennifer Lawrence and concluded in 2015 with the second Mockingjay movie.
Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, the chief negotiator for SAG-AFTRA, emphasized the importance of interim agreements for the union during the ongoing strike. These agreements enable actors to promote their works and contribute to the success of their projects, despite the challenging labor negotiations.
As the release date for “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” approaches, fans of “The Hunger Games” series can look forward to seeing their favorite actors actively promoting the film and building excitement for this highly anticipated prequel.
