Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled Meta AI, the company’s new AI-powered assistant, at the recent Meta Connect event. This cutting-edge technology will be integrated into popular platforms like Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Meta’s mixed reality devices.
Based on the language model Llama 2, and developed in collaboration with Microsoft Bing, Meta AI brings users real-time information sourced from the vast expanse of the internet. Its capabilities include answering questions, engaging in conversations with users, and even generating images through the Emu image generation tool.
One of Meta’s core strategies is to tailor AI products for specific use cases, ensuring each social media app has a unique version of Meta AI. The company aims to create an engaging and conversational experience for users by offering a collection of chatbots based on approximately 30 celebrities, including renowned personalities like Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg, and Tom Brady.
Excitingly, Meta AI will be available on Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp for a limited group of US-based users starting September 27. Additionally, it will be accessible on Meta’s highly anticipated smart glasses, set to be released on October 17, as well as the Quest 3 VR device.
Meanwhile, Meta’s competitor in the AI assistant market, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, recently made a significant announcement. ChatGPT will no longer be limited to data predating 2021, marking a significant update for Plus and Enterprise users. Previously, ChatGPT was hindered by gaps in its knowledge base beyond 2021. However, this update aims to address that limitation, providing users with up-to-date information and a more comprehensive experience.
Overall, with Meta’s introduction of Meta AI and its ambitious plans to integrate AI across various platforms and devices, coupled with OpenAI’s efforts to improve ChatGPT’s knowledge base, the AI assistant landscape is set to witness significant advancements in the near future. Users can now look forward to enhanced productivity and engaging experiences with the assistance of these powerful AI technologies.
